When I first got my DVD I was upset by the fact that the disk inside was not the original disk, the reason why I bought it in the first place (the copy floating around the Internet is bad news). However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the movie quality was far better than the Internet, good enough, IMHO, as the original disc must have been.

It was great seeing this again after all these years.
If my memory isn't faulty from the last time I watched this movie many years ago, I would say the quality of the image was slightly better than the VCR tape I still have in a closet somewhere (I have no VCR, which is why I bought this version). This movie was 838x480, and a bit grainy with some color bleed.
The aspect ratio also seemed to be slightly off. Everything looked a bit wider and shorter than it should have been. I waited for a good side view of a car's wheel rims to be sure. They were ovals.
The sound level was also a bit on the low side. I really had to crank the volume on my computer.
All that said, until they find it in their hearts to provide those of us in the US with a remastered version of this film (fingers crossed while looking at you Criterion), this is well worth the price I paid. If it ever is released through official channels, I won't hesitate to buy it again. It's a really fun film.
In the meantime, thank you Vintage Shack for making this available.
